K2; known as the King of Mountains, is the second-highest mountain in the world at 8,611 meters, after Mount Everest at 8,848 meters. It is located on the China–Pakistan border in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan.
Attempts To Climb K2
Attempts to climb K2 started in 1856 but the first serious attempt to climb K2 was undertaken in 1902.
The 1954 Italian Karakoram expedition finally succeeded in ascending to the summit of K2. Ardito Desio was leading the expedition and the two climbers who reached the summit were Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni.
k2 Winter Summit By Nepali Climbers
These summits are still going on and the latest one is by Nepali climbers; a team of 10 members, they summited the peak for the first time in winter. Because here winter brings with it a whole different level of danger and challenge due to heavy snow and high wind speed and the temperature reaches -65 degrees Celsius.

The first update was when they were in Skardu from Islamabad and were making last-minute preparations and completing all necessary things.

They reached Camp 1 with a super heavy load carry including 4 days’ worth of food, tents, and rope fixing equipment. And arrived at Camp 2 for a stay of a day. Then after the stay, they went to the basecamp and had a Puja ceremony at the K2 Basecamp.
It was great to see all members from different teams praying to the mountain god together for a safe passage.

Their team reached back to Camp 2 and the site was wreckage. They lost everything including kits; sleeping bags, mattresses, heated shoe insoles, summit gloves/mittens, summit base layers, paragliding equipment, cooking equipment, etc. In other words, they found the tents and all the equipment destroyed and swept away by the wind. Then they replanned everything and went back to the base camp.
But they didn’t lose hope and continued the summit together and pushed it to the end.
